I
left Tennyson Road school in the
summer of 1955..
and along with several other boys
joined the Royal Navy at HMS Ganges..
I subsequently served for 25 years and
retired in 1980 as Master at Arms..
I am now fully retired and live in
Blackpool with my wife
I was trying to trace Bob Broadbent
via his brother Tom..
I remember one or two of the pupils
and the form teacher
Mr Pack, known as pimple, the woodwork
teacher was Reynolds..
his son was in our class, some others
who joined were
Tony Bowyer, Peter Lewis, the other
names elude me..

Hello,
this site brings back memories..
on the photo page is a picture of the
Schuyler family,
who were great friends of my
parents...
My dad worked at the NCO club and
their son
came to Ireland with us for a holiday
my sister was named after their
daughter..
nice memories, keep them coming,

Absolutely wonderful, keep it up!

I
was born in Rushden in the early

and grew up there until 1996 when I

The site is of interest as it brings
back memories of the town in the
past..
I have attached a few photo's from the

[Wood ] Bailey
Just
before Christmas we upped sticks and
moved to a lovely village..
Heacham in Norfolk, we decided to get
out of the fast lane..
I heard from Ron [ Taff ] Jones the
other day through this site..
which was a nice surprise, it is
always nice to hear from old friends..
I have found many through the site..
I was in Rushden last weekend with my
brother David..
and sister in law Wendy Wood, they
have also moved to Heacham..
While there I saw Sheila Chettle, who
I had seen at the reunion last year..
The great thing about Rushden is that
through all the changes..
life has thrown at the old place, it
still remains..
very like the old place I knew and
enjoyed when I was growing up..
The Hall park, though sadly missing
the old band stand. is still as
beautiful..
especially in the winter snows..
Even on the High street, although
different shops have moved in,
the old Rushden still peers out...
Young people still congregate on the
Weslyan chapel steps..
Wellingborough road still wends it's
way to Irchester..
and Fitzwilliam hill, where my friend
Olive Kitchener lived, is still the
same..
Memories always pop up when I am
there, which will be more often
now I am closer than when we lived in
Yorkshire..

Message
for Mr Joyce, Re Temperance Brass
Band..
My dad Jack Scholes was in the band
and entered many competitions
The band master who taught the band
was my dad's brother
William Scholes..
Both John [ Jack ] and William [ Bill
] had their grounding in music
and brass bands in the Rushden
Salvation Army as young lads..
Also they recorded for the radio..
My dad used to take our dog to band
practice and..
if the band played a wrong note the
dog would howl..
She went to a recording, much to the
producers disgust..
but dad made sure she didn't howl on
that occasion..
Yes, I agree it was lovely on Sunday
afternoon to go to the local park
and listen to the bands, it seemed a
family occasion
and time to meet friends...

I
used to live in Wollaston and loved to
watch the B47's..
I often cycled with a friend Roland
Brawn to watch
the B66's on the Hargrave road end of
the runway..
We loved it when the crews waved as
they taxied by us..
One day a bored MP gave us a ride in a
blue Ford F100 pickup,
around the aircraft, we talked about
it for months..
The airshow was a great event and I
loved to photograph the aircraft..
I loved the F102 take off and the C130
it was the first one I had seen..
Here's another name for you..
Audrey Wodzenski, the base Avon lady..
from Gypsy Lane Irchester,
A question for you, what was the T33
Beaver and C47 used for?..
They just seemed to be in the circuit
all day..
was this so desk jockeys got their
flight pay..
Keep up the good work....

I remember particularly when there
was a small funfair...
and I saw a wall of death display
for the first time...that must have
been about 1956...
Why was I taken to the fun day at

so it became a birthday treat...

Hi!,
Nice to see the picture of Arbuckles
on your site.
I've been the manager there
for the last ten months.
I'd love to be able to get hold of
pictures of the place before it was
Arbuckles,
[The Railway], do you know of
any ?.

I
have paid a brief visit to your
excellent website..
after it was recommended to me
by my cousin David Nichols
who lives in Adelaide, South
Australia.
We have lived in Rushden all our
lives and will return to your pages
again and read them with great
interest. Best wishes to you...

Just looked at the site, good to see
the old faces. I knew most of the
girls, so may be able to come up
with some of their names....

Rushden to Norwich,
with my wife, [a Wellingborough
girl], 25 years ago. I have a
sister, Irene who married Eugene
Butler, a dental technician based at
Chelveston. Gene has since
died, he tried to teach me to play
golf on the grass area beneath the
base radar dishes, my girl friend
and I, [now my wife], also bowled at
the base. The last time I saw Verna,
featured in your photo's, she was
the owner of a popular refreshment
stall at Wellingborough market, this
was about 6 or 7 years ago. It's not
just the girls who would like to
hear from old school friends.
Great
site, keep it up, Laurie...

Hi
Joyce, mum told me to take a
look...not bad at all..
should look pretty good when
it's fully complete, well done.
I now live in Havant, [near
Portsmouth] Why don't you write to
the Evening Telegraph, telling them
about it.. you never know they might
feature it and the number of people
will increase if you add a counter
to your main page. Just some ideas,
keep up the good work on a fantastic
idea, bye for now, Karl...

Absolutely
brilliant web site. I particularly
enjoyed looking at the Rushden
scenery as it was when I was just
knee-high to a grasshopper.
Keep
up the good work Joyce, you'll bring
a lot of happiness and fond memories
to a lot of folks, Kevin...
