After the departure of the 305th, at the
end of the war... Chelveston was relinquished to the care of 25 R.A.F. maintenance... --------------------------------------- |

At the beginning of 1952.. the
817th Engineers, an American unit... arrived, to begin reconstruction of a new airfield on the Chelveston site.... ---------------------------------------------- |

Nearing completion... November 7th
1955.... According to the perceived innovations at the time, a single, almost two miles long... "fifty yard wide runway" was laid... with the taxiing track running parallel... -------------------- Your top picture of the runway under
construction shows the asphalt plant at the end of the
runway. The crane on the right is where the cement plant
was located. I helped set them both up.... |
