Many of you spent your Sunday afternoons at "Brafield"....
at the stock car races...
From the early '50s  when the army was at Chelveston...
cars full of guys and gals would leave the Cambridge or Globe in Wellingborough
or the West End or Feathers in Rushden.. to go "see the races"..

Maybe some of you have photo's.. or recollections of the races.. you would like to include in this page...

Jim Berg..Doc Kelly.. and  Captain Harvey...
All were at Chelveston together and raced stock car s in the British car F - 1 division...
If anyone knows them or their whereabouts I would love to hear from them... Thanks..

There ia a cool web site concerning the stock car racing of that era...

Thanks to Mavis and George.. for these photo's...

Margy and Clayton Sampson.. were avid race goers...
Margy tells the following story about them returning from a race at Coventry one evening...
Sam was tired and dirty... where his goggles had been was the only white place on his face...
they were towing car 338... and he kept repeating to Marg...
"I wish that [ blankety blank!! ]  car would get off my bumper...
She laughed...  eventually telling him
" It's ok... the car following too close... is on your trailer".......

more coming shortly

David Kipling has a page about Brafield with many old photo's...
A link to his site is on my links page..
there are photo's.. and lots of information about the races...

On Sunday afternoons in the fifties...
Sheila and I would go to Wellingborough...to go to the pictures...
and there were always lots of folks heading to the races...
I only went a few times...  but maybe some of you that went often...
would let us hear your memories of them...
